Vít Havránek

Biography

Vít Havránek is a curator and art organizer based in Prague, Czech Republic. Since 2002 he has been a director of the initiative for contemporary art tranzit (www.tranzit.org).

He has curated and co-curated exhibitions including Ján Mančuška: First Retrospective (City Gallery Prague, Muzeum Sztuki Lodz and MG v Brně, Brno, 2015); Report on the Construction of a Spaceship (New Museum, New York, 2014); Adaptation (Steirischer Herbst, Graz, 2012); Encyclopedia of Failure (Jakarta Biennale 2013); Manifesta 8 (Spain, 2011); Monument to Transformation (Centro Montehermoso, Spain, 2010; City Gallery Prague, 2009; tranzit workshops, Bratislava, 2008); tranzit – Auditorium, Stage, Backstage (Frankfurter Kunstverein, 2006); I (Secession Wien, 2006); Jiří Kovanda (Brno, 2004); Otto Piene (City Gallery Prague, 2002); action, word, movement, space (City Gallery Prague, 1999); and others.

Havránek has edited and co-edited books and catalogues including Pictorial Atlas of a Girl Who Cut a Library into Pieces (with Eva Koťátková, 2016); The Czech Files (with H.U. Obrist, 2014); Atlas of Transformation (2010); Autobiographies (2006); The Need to Document (2005); Lanterna Magika (2002); and action, word, movement, space (1999). He has also contributed to contemporary art books, catalogues (Les promesses du passé, Centre Pompidou, 2010; Voids: A Retrospective, JRP Ringier, 2009; The Green Room, Sterneberg Press, 2008), and magazines (Umělec, Springerin, Flash Art, Manifesta Journal, trouble, etc.). Vit Havránek has lectured at the AAAD Prague, North Carolina University and the Prague Institute, and has also been a guest lecturer and speaker on various occasions (MIT Boston, University of Amsterdam, Documenta 12, Museum of Modern Art Warsaw, and others).
