Andrea Geyer

Andrea Geyer lives and works in New York City. She uses both fiction and documentary strategies in her image and text based works. Her works are temporal translations of specific social and political situations that address larger concepts such as national identity, gender and class in the context of the ongoing re-adjustment of cultural meanings and social memories. Her work has been shown at the 29th Sao Paulo Biennale, Whitney Museum of American Art (New York), RedCat (Los Angeles), Museum of Modern Art (New York), Tate Modern (London), Documenta 12 (Kassel), 2012 Taipee Biennial (Taiwan), Stedelijk Museum (Amsterdam) and Gallery Thomas Zander (Cologne). Her work has been widely published in Whitney Museum of American catalogue; Zeitschrift des Center for Photography; Artmagazine Vienna; Artforum New York; Spiral Lands and Writersproject, PS1, Long Island. Her education includes the Whitney ISP in 2000, Academy of Fine Arts, in Baynschweig, Germany, and a degree in Photography/Film design at Facchochschule Bielefieid. Geyer is an Assistant Professor in Fine Arts at Parsons the New School for Design.
