Chantal Maes

Chantal Maes was born in 1965 in Brussels, Belgium, where she lives and works.

She has a diploma in photography from the École Nationale Supérieure des Arts Visuels de la Cambre in Brussels (1989). Her most recent solo exhibitions have been in Belgium, at Espace photographique Contretype, Brussels (2008), La Raffinerie, Brussels (2005), Cultuurcentrum de Doos, Hasselt (2004), Galerie Art Concern, Courtrai (2003), the Musée de la Photographie in Charleroi (2001) and the Antwerp FotoMuseum (1999). She has also been part of numerous group shows, mostly in Europe. Maes has headed the photography workshop at the Académie royale des Beaux-Arts in Brussels since 2003. Her photographs are in the collections of the Musée de la Photographie in Charleroi, the Antwerp FotoMuseum, the MAC’s du Grand-Hornu, the Banque Brussels Lambert and the Banque Nationale de Belgique, among others.
