John Boyle-Singfield lives in Montreal. He holds a bachelor’s degree from Université du Québec à Chicoutimi. His work explores notions of language and exhibition through a practice blending performance, video, installation and net art. In expanding institutional criticism to include the individual as an institution, Boyle-Singfield introduces a complex play of representation of various kinds of power through the art objects he produces. His laconic interventions, often laced with humour, enable him to create a ground for reflection on the aspects of joy and violence depicted in his works. John Boyle-Singfield has recently exhibited his works at the artist-run centres Le Lieu (Quebec City, 2013), Dare-Dare (Montreal, 2017) and L’Écart (Rouyn-Noranda, 2017), as well as at the Musée régional de Rimouski (2014).
