Joshua Petherick
Joshua Petherick (1979–) is an Australian artist who lives and works in Melbourne. His sculptural manipulation of everyday items and technology inhabits a contemplative interregnum in which object and image are fractured, filtered, deliquesced, and dispersed from fixed positioning. Through tactile interventions and behavioural disruption, these bodies, found and crafted, encourage exploration of possibilities between two-dimensional and sculptural, artwork and support, synthetic and natural, and bring forth questions of identification and value of the things that surround our daily lives and the fictions that arise from them. Recent exhibitions include the 9th Berlin Biennale for Contemporary Art (2016); TarraWarra Biennial (Victoria, 2016); Technologism, Monash University Museum of Art (Melbourne, 2015); Lurid Beauty: Australian Surrealism and Its Echoes, National Gallery of Victoria (Melbourne, 2015–16); and Glasgow International, The Common Guild (Glasgow, 2012). Petherick is represented by Croy Nielsen (Vienna), Minerva (Sydney), Robert Heald (Wellington), and Station (Melbourne).
