LaToya Ruby Frazier

LaToya Ruby Frazier (1982–) is an American artist who lives and works in Chicago. Through photography, video, and performance, she addresses rustbelt deindustrial­ization, environmental justice, healthcare inequity, family, and communal history. Exhibitions and biennials featur­ing her work include at the Musée des Arts Contempo­rains de la Fédération Wallonie-Bruxelles (Grand-Hornu, 2017), CAPC Musée d’art contemporain (Bordeaux, 2016), Folkwang Museum (Essen, 2016), Aperture (New York, 2015), and the 56th Venice Biennale (2015). In 2015, her book The Notion of Family (Aperture, 2014) received the International Center for Photography Infinity Award. Her work is in the collections of the Museum of Modern Art of New York, the Whitney Museum of American Art, the Brooklyn Museum of Art, and the Museum of Contem­porary Photography of Chicago. Awards include the Gordon Parks Foundation Award (2016) and the MacArthur Genius Grant (2015). She is represented by Michel Rein (Paris, Brussels) and Gavin Brown’s enterprise (New York, Rome).
