Mario Garcia Torres

Mario Garcia Torres lives and works in Mexico City / Los Angeles.

He holds a BFA from the University of Monterrey, Mexico and a MFA from the California Institute of the Arts in Valencia, California. In his photographs, videos and installations, he revisits the history of conceptual art and questions the very nature of what art is. He participated in the Taipei Biennial, Taiwan and the 29th São Paulo Biennial, Bresil (2010), the 8th Panama Biennial (2008), the 52nd Venice Biennial (2007), as well as in group exhibitions at various institutions around the world. Solo shows have been held, among others, at Museo Reina Sofia in Madrid, Spain (2010), Fundació Joan Miró in Barcelona, Spain (2009), CCA Wattis Institute for Contemporary Art, San Francisco (2009), Kunsthalle Zürich, Switzerland (2008), and Stedelijk Museum in Amsterdam, Netherlands (2007). A recipient of the Cartier Award at the Frieze Art Fair of New York (2007), Garcia Torres is represented by Jan Mot in Brussels, Belgium, Proyectos Monclova in Mexico City, and Taka Ishii Gallery in Tokyo, Japan.
