Samuel Fosso

Samuel Fosso (1962–) is a Cameroonian artist who lives and works in Paris and Bangui, Central African Republic. He has gone beyond the standard practices of self-portraiture, staging scenes that often convey messages of a political nature. His work has been featured in numer­ous solo and group exhibitions, including After the Fact: Propaganda 2001–2017, Städtische Galerie (Munich, 2017); Unfinished Conversations, Museum of Modern Art (New York, 2017); 10 years old, Fondazione Fotografia Modena (2017); When the Heavens Meet the Earth, Heong Gallery (Cambridge, 2017); and Performing for the Camera, Tate Modern (London, 2016). His works can also be found in many major collections, including those of the Musée national d’art moderne — Centre Georges-Pompidou of Paris, the Tate Modern, the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum, and the Museum of Modern Art of New York. He is represented by Galerie jean marc patras (Paris).
