Santiago López Petit

Born in Barcelona in 1950. He was an activist for workers’ autonomy in the 1970s, and worked for several years as a chemist. He later studied philosophy, and is currently a tenured lecturer in that discipline at the University of Barcelona. He took part in several resistance movements in the wake of the Workers’ Movement crisis. He is also a founding member of the collective Espai en blanc (www.espaienblanc.net), dedicated to critical and experimental thinking. The collective’s output includes the film El taxista Ful (2005), the “Free Money” campaigns and a series of tracts known as “El pressentiment.” Santiago López Petit has published several books, including Entre el Ser y el Poder: Una apuesta por el querer vivir (1998, reprinted in 2009), Horror Vacui: La nuit de la traversée du siècle (published in a French translation by Les Éditions de L’harmattan, 2010), El infinito y la nada: El querer vivir como desafío (2003), Aimer et penser: la haine du vouloir-vivre (French translation, Les Éditions de L’harmattan, 2010) and La movilización global: Breve tratado para atacar la realidad (Madrid, 2009). He has also contributed to various collective books and periodicals such as El Viejo Topo, Archipiélago, Riff Raff, Futur Antérieur, etc. His books have been translated in several languages.
